Modern search engines discover new websites automatically, but you can speed up indexing and monitor how your site appears in search results by registering with the official webmaster tools. Submitting a sitemap helps search engines crawl every page of your site.
Google Search Console
- Go to search.google.com/search-console and sign in with a Google account.
- Click Add property and enter your domain name.
- Verify ownership. The easiest methods are adding the DNS TXT record Google provides (in the billing portal under Domains > DNS Management), or uploading the HTML verification file to your public_html folder using cPanel File Manager.
- Once verified, open Sitemaps and submit https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml.
Bing Webmaster Tools
- Go to bing.com/webmasters and sign in.
- Add your site (you can import it directly from Google Search Console) and submit the same sitemap.
Tip: most CMS platforms generate a sitemap for you. WordPress does this automatically, or with an SEO plugin such as Yoast or Rank Math. You do not need to resubmit after every change; search engines re-crawl your site on their own.
